The Red Barn story

Brothers Matt and Jeff Nichols opened their first restaurant in Solvang in 1996, ran Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos from 2002, and moved into the Red Barn in 2013. The building started as a private home and a dance hall; Lloyd and Clara Borkman then ran it as The Red Barn for 50 years.

Look for the two fireplaces kept from the original barn, photos of Los Rancheros Visitadores riders on the walls, saloon wallpaper found under old paint and JC's Bar, its top cut from a pine felled on Figueroa Mountain. Near the casino? See where to eat near Chumash Casino.
