Where to stay in Buellton

8 places off Highway 101, and a windmill

Stay here for value and the freeway, not charm. Buellton sits on Highway 101, a short drive from Solvang, with the valley's chain hotels and roadside inns. Sideways Inn is the exception: a windmill lobby, pools, a lounge, and dogs welcome. Pea Soup Andersen's Inn is still open with breakfast included. Only the restaurant next door closed.

Is Buellton a good value base for wine country?

Rates change daily, so compare on your dates. What you can count on: several Buellton stays include breakfast, and it's right on Highway 101, with Solvang, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos a short car ride away [1]. Sideways Inn takes 25% off two or more nights from Sunday to Wednesday through Dec 30, 2026, with code B2GET25 [4]. If walking to dinner matters more than price, look at Solvang hotels instead.

Pea Soup Andersen's Inn

The inn is still open; the restaurant next door isn't. Pea Soup Andersen's Inn says on its site that it's open and separately owned and operated, and that the neighboring Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurant "recently closed for redevelopment" [2]. It was founded in 1969 and is still managed by the Nielsen family.

Most of them, and the fees vary a lot. Sideways Inn takes up to two dogs of 50 lb or less for a one-time $50 cleaning fee. The Inn at Zaca Creek charges $35 a stay ($25 more for a second dog), Quality Inn $25 per pet per stay, the Hampton Inn & Suites $75 for 1 to 4 nights ($125 for longer, dogs or cats only) and the Marriott $150 a stay for up to two pets in first-floor rooms [4]. Hotel Hygge and Flying Flags are dog friendly too. Pea Soup Andersen's Inn doesn't allow pets.

How far is Buellton from Solvang, and is Highway 101 open?

Solvang is about 3 miles east on Highway 246, and Santa Ynez and Los Olivos are a short drive past it [1]. Highway 101 is open, but Caltrans is rebuilding it through town until March 2027, with one lane each way in the work zone. Until early November 2026, the northbound off-ramp and the southbound on-ramp at Highway 246 are closed: northbound, exit at Santa Rosa Road and follow the detour along Avenue of the Flags. Hotels, restaurants and wineries are open as usual [3].

For dinner close to your room, there's Hitching Post 2, Industrial Eats and Figueroa Mountain Brewing, and for tasting, see our Solvang wine tasting guide.
