The best hotels by trip

Pick by the trip you're planning, not a ranking. Eating at Alisal without staying? Our Alisal Ranch guide covers the River Grill. Full guides for The Landsby and Hotel Corque cover rooms, parking and what's within a short walk.

For a couple's weekend

Decide whether you want to walk to dinner or drive to quiet. In the village, the smallest places are Atterdag Inn (8 rooms, private courtyard) and The Winston (14 rooms, a minute from Solvang Park). The Marlo has 24 rooms around garden courtyards, with fireplaces. Out of town, Hotel Ynez keeps its heated pool for guests 21 and over, and some of its rooms have an in-room fireplace or a private yard with an outdoor soaking tub. Alisal Ranch cottages have wood-burning fireplaces and no TVs. Then book dinner: our Solvang restaurants guide lists every table's walk from Solvang Park, the village green, so you can leave the car at the hotel.

The hotels, nearest the park first

  1. 14 rooms, no front desk, dogs welcome · Solvang

    The Winston

No front desk, on purpose. This small 1st Street hotel sends guests access codes instead of a standard check-in, and swaps the lobby bar for a guest-only honor bar. Its site talks up traveling with your four-legged companion, so the dog can come.

Go if the dog is coming and you want a small, low-key base.

Walk to downtown

Nearly all of them. By OpenStreetMap walking routes to Solvang Park, The Winston is 1 minute, King Frederik Inn 2 and The Landsby, Royal Copenhagen Inn and Svendsgaard's 4. Hamlet Inn and Atterdag Inn are 5, and Corque, Solvang Inn & Cottages and Wine Valley Inn are 6. The farthest in-town picks, Kronborg Inn and New Haven Inn, are 10 minutes. Hotel Ynez (2.2 miles) and Alisal Ranch (2.7 miles) are drives. When you're ready to taste, start with our Solvang wine tasting guide.

Boutique hotels

If boutique means small, seven places on our list have 25 rooms or fewer: Atterdag Inn (8), Viking Inn and Hamlet Inn (13 each), The Winston (14), New Haven Inn (20), Hotel Ynez (22) and The Marlo (24). If it means designed and central, The Landsby is the one with a restaurant downstairs. Hamlet Inn leans into Danish modern, with wishbone chairs and Danish flag blankets.

Hotels with a pool

Eight on our list say so on their own sites. Heated: Royal Copenhagen Inn, King Frederik Inn (year-round), Solvang Inn & Cottages (with a hot tub) and Hotel Ynez (21 and over). Also with pools: Corque Hotel (plus a whirlpool, per Marriott), Vinland, Kronborg Inn and Svendsgaard's, which has a spa too. Check opening hours and seasons with the hotel.

Pet-friendly hotels

Nine on our list say so on their own policy pages. The cheapest published fees are Royal Copenhagen Inn and Solvang Inn & Cottages at $25 a night. Vinland charges $50 once and Hotel Ynez $50 per dog for the stay. The Landsby and The Winston charge $100. King Frederik Inn, Kronborg Inn and Hamlet Inn say no pets. Corque is the odd one: its own site says it isn't pet friendly, while its Marriott listing says up to 2 pets, 80 lb each, $150 per stay. Call before you book. Fees, weight limits and dog-friendly patios are in pet-friendly hotels in Solvang.

Cheap hotels and motels

The places that pitch themselves on value are Kronborg Inn, which calls itself budget-friendly, and Svendsgaard's, an Americas Best Value Inn with a free continental breakfast. The two motels, Viking Inn and Hamlet Inn, both lend bikes for free. We don't print nightly rates because they change with the calendar, but midweek is cheaper at several places (see rates and deals). Hotel Ynez lists its taxes: 14.195% occupancy tax plus a $3 per night TBID fee on top of the room rate.

Luxury, resorts and cottages

The only resort on our list is Alisal Ranch: 10,500 acres, open since 1946, with horseback riding, a lake and golf. In the village, Corque Hotel is the full-service option, with a pool, mission-view rooms and Craft House at Corque. For cottages, Wine Valley Inn & Cottages and Solvang Inn & Cottages both have them, and Alisal's cottages have wood-burning fireplaces.

Hotel Corque

Corque Hotel, at 400 Alisal Road, has 122 rooms and is a 6-minute walk from Solvang Park. The Lompoc Record called it Solvang's largest hotel when it was renamed in 2009. The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians owns and operates it, and in July 2025 it joined Marriott Bonvoy's Tribute Portfolio, so you can earn and redeem Marriott points there [7]. On Marriott it's listed as Corque Hotel, Solvang, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel [5].

It wasn't always Corque. Until January 2009 this was the Royal Scandinavian Inn. The Chumash bought it in 2007, remodeled it and renamed it Hotel Corque [8]. Cycling fans may know the old name. The pro team that trained in Solvang every January from 2003, Team Postal Service and then Discovery Channel, stayed at the Royal Scandinavian Inn and used its rear parking lot as a staging area, the Lompoc Record reported in 2007 [9]. See closed, moved and renamed for other old names.

What's there: a pool and a whirlpool (per Marriott) and Craft House at Corque on site. Bringing a dog? The hotel's own site says it isn't pet friendly, but its Marriott listing says pets are welcome for $150 per stay, so call 805-688-8000 first (see the pet-fee index). Marriott also says there's no EV charging on site.

Marriott, Hilton and chains

Yes, one of each, plus a Sonesta. Corque Hotel is on Marriott as Corque Hotel, Solvang, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel [5] (more above). The Santa Ynez Valley Marriott is in Buellton, at 555 McMurray Road; Marriott puts it 3 miles from Solvang and says it's pet friendly [10]. The Hadsten is The Hadsten Solvang, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, 1450 Mission Drive, with 74 rooms and no pets [11], a 9-minute walk from Solvang Park. For Sonesta points, Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge at 1711 Mission Drive is an Americas Best Value Inn [12].

Breakfast and B&Bs

Wine Valley Inn includes breakfast daily. Solvang Inn & Cottages and Svendsgaard's serve a continental breakfast. Royal Copenhagen Inn has Olsen's pastries delivered, and King Frederik Inn puts out pastries and coffee. Solvang's small inns run more like tiny hotels than classic B&Bs. For a traditional inn with breakfast, look to The Ballard Inn in nearby Ballard. Otherwise, walk to a bakery: see breakfast in Solvang.

Airbnb and vacation rentals

Solvang USA's lodging directory lists 29 places: 18 hotels and 11 vacation rentals, including WorldMark Solvang on Alisal Road [1]. We cover hotels here because their policies are published. If you want a kitchen without a rental, WorldMark Solvang is all suites, and its two-bedroom condos have full kitchens (Wyndham notes onsite parking fees may apply there). Hotel Ynez has a Kitchen Deluxe King with a full kitchen and a pullout sofa, and Royal Copenhagen Inn has family lofts with a bedroom upstairs. Renting a house instead? Solvang permits short-term rentals only in its downtown district, so check our vacation rental rules by town before you book.

Prices and the cheapest dates

Rates move a lot with the calendar, so we don't print nightly prices. A few things do help. Solvang USA says parking is free across Solvang [3], though The Landsby charges $20 per car, per night, for its own lot [13]. Several properties include breakfast or morning pastries (see above). Midweek is where the deals are. Alisal Ranch lists 25% off select Sunday to Thursday stays this fall and winter, The Landsby lists 10% off travel through January 31, 2027, and New Haven Inn takes 10% off three-night stays. December is busy because of Julefest, so book early if you're coming for the tree lighting or the parade.

Closed or renamed

Mirabelle Inn (409 1st Street) is closed for a full renovation. Its site says it will relaunch as Solvang Haus under new ownership, with a late 2026 timeline, that bookings are unavailable, and that the on-site restaurant (First & Oak) will not reopen [6]. Separately, a third-party booking site still sells a "Meadowlark Inn" at 2644 Mission Drive, which is Hotel Ynez's address. Book through the hotel's own site. And the Hamlet Inn at hamletinn.com is in Southampton, New York; Solvang's is thehamletinn.com. The full list, with dates and sources, is on closed, moved and renamed in the Santa Ynez Valley.

EV charging

Three have chargers on site, per the U.S. Department of Energy station locator. New Haven Inn has 5 free Tesla Destination ports that also take J1772 cars, Vinland has 2 free ports of the same kind, and Alisal Ranch has TurnOnGreen Level 2 chargers listed for guests. Corque Hotel says it has none. Without a hotel charger, the city lots at 1556 Mission Drive, 482 Alisal Road and 1745 Mission Drive each have a 2-port ChargePoint, and Electrify America has 4 fast chargers on Old Mission Drive. Staying in a nearby town

Stay in Solvang if you want the most rooms, bakeries for breakfast and a walkable evening. Los Olivos is smaller and built around its tasting rooms, and Santa Ynez has a handful of small inns. Buellton sits by Highway 101 and puts you near Hitching Post 2 and Industrial Eats. Heading to the coast? Lompoc is about half an hour west by car, the base for Jalama Beach and launch viewing. North of the valley, see Los Alamos.

Make a day of it

Drive times are without traffic. In town, walk the Solvang windmills loop, then Mission Santa Inés, about 2 minutes by car from Solvang Park. Nojoqui Falls is about 18 minutes south. Go west and La Purísima Mission is about 35 minutes, with the Lompoc Wine Ghetto about 32. Jalama Beach is a full hour and change (about 69 minutes), so make it the day's main event. Back in the village, book dinner from our Solvang restaurants guide, or see things to do in Solvang.

Which airport to fly into

Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), about 35 miles south (51 minutes by road), has the most flights. Santa Maria (SMX, about 33 miles north) is as close but only Allegiant flies there, and San Luis Obispo (SBP) is about 62 miles north. Santa Ynez Airport (IZA), about 5 miles away, serves private aircraft. For drive times from every airport, shuttles and the train, see how to get to Solvang. Amtrak Thruway coaches stop downtown at 1630 Mission Drive [4]. Solvang USA calls Solvang a driving destination, so plan on a car or a driver [3].
