Same business, two names. It opened as Los Olivos Café in 1995, became Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café when it added a bigger wine shop in 2001, and its own site now uses Los Olivos Café again. The Wine Wall was the backdrop for a dinner scene in Sideways. Lunch runs from 11:30am every day, with a short menu of pizzas, salads and appetizers from 3pm to 5pm and happy hour discounts Monday to Thursday. Much of the produce comes from the owners' four-acre organic farm less than a mile away. Reservations are recommended for dinner.

It seats from 11:30am until 8:45pm every day, so it works for lunch between tasting rooms. Only service animals are allowed, so leave the dog at the hotel.

The Chef's Touch BBQ Rig
East Texas style barbecue from a food truck parked in front of the Carhartt tasting room cabin on Grand Avenue. Pitmaster Kurt Alldredge started The Chef's Touch catering in 2003, and the truck now goes by The BBQ Rig. Smoked brisket, tri-tip and pulled pork sandwiches come on house-made buns with slaw, and Guy Fieri tried the Whole Hog and Pineapple Express sandwiches on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2023. Nella Kitchen & Bar works in partnership with Fess Parker. The Fess Parker Wine Country Inn's own site lists "dining at Nella Kitchen & Bar" among its amenities, and Nella sits alongside the inn at 2860 Grand Avenue. Before Nella opened in 2020 the space was The Bear and Star (2017 to 2019), and before that Petros, Restaurant Marcella and Wine Cask, per santabarbara.com. Book Bar Le Côte, whose dining room is best for parties of two to four, and Mattei's Tavern for dinner. Los Olivos Café recommends reservations, and Nella takes them. Petros takes reservations. Lucky Penny, Gandolfo and Figueroa Mountain are walk-in.

Which Los Olivos restaurants have closed?
Sides Hardware & Shoes closed in February 2020 after almost eight years; Bar Le Côte now occupies its address at 2375 Alamo Pintado Avenue. The Bear and Star, the Fess Parker family's ranch restaurant at the inn, closed at the end of 2019 and became Nella. Corner House Coffee's old address, 2902 San Marcos Avenue, is now Lucky Penny. The Ballard Inn's site lists breakfast and a wine and cheese hour for guests but no public restaurant; its former chef runs The Gathering Table in Solvang. Yes. Los Olivos is a few blocks around one landmark, the flagpole in the middle of the intersection of Grand Avenue and Alamo Pintado Avenue, and every kitchen in the village is within a 5-minute walk of it. Walk times from the flagpole:

Does the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn have a restaurant?
Yes. The inn's restaurant is Nella Kitchen & Bar, at 2860 Grand Avenue, from the S.Y. Kitchen team. It seats daily from 11:30am to 8:45pm and books on OpenTable. The inn's earlier restaurant, The Bear and Star, closed at the end of 2019. Fess Parker Winery, on Foxen Canyon Road, is a tasting room, not a restaurant.
Is Los Olivos Café the same as Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café?
Yes. It opened as Los Olivos Café in 1995, was renamed Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café in 2001 when it added a bigger wine shop, and now goes by Los Olivos Café again on its own site. Same owners, same address: 2879 Grand Avenue. Its Wine Wall appears in a dinner scene in Sideways.
Is there a Panino in Los Olivos?
Yes, at 2900 Grand Avenue (805-688-9304). Panino says its shops are open seven days a week, 362 days a year. It doesn't publish hours for the Los Olivos shop, so call ahead.

Nella and Los Olivos Café serve lunch daily from 11:30am, and Mattei's Tavern from 11:30am to 2pm. Are Los Olivos restaurants dog friendly?
Check before you bring a dog. Nella allows service animals only. None of the other restaurants here publish a dog policy. Fess Parker Winery's Parker Family Oak Grove is pet friendly and welcomes outside food with a wine purchase, so a picnic from Panino or Gandolfo works there.
