The three free lots

LotWhere it puts youWalk to Solvang Park
1639 Copenhagen DriveNext door to the Solvang Visitor Center (1637 Copenhagen Drive). Closest lot to the main shopping street.2 min
464 Alisal RoadEast side of the village, off Alisal Road. City EV chargers are on the same block, at 482 Alisal Road.5 min
1616 Oak StreetSouth of Copenhagen Drive, a short walk up to the bakeries and tasting rooms.5 min

Walk times run from each lot to Solvang Park, the village green, at an easy pace. Aim for the Copenhagen Drive lot first: it shares a block with the Visitor Center, open 9:30 to 5:30 daily. If it's full, Oak Street or Alisal Road adds three minutes on foot, and the parking is still free.

Time limits that apply

Park outside the limits in Solvang's city code and the car can be towed at your cost. In a city lot you can stay 24 consecutive hours without a permit, park only inside a marked space, and keep to 5 mph. On any street or alley the limit is 72 consecutive hours, and a trailer or boat left on the street gets 8 hours in any 24. If a posted sign says something different, follow the sign.

RVs, trailers and big vans

No vehicle over 20 feet long and 7,500 pounds gross may enter the public lots, which rules out most RVs, trailers and buses. The code reserves designated spaces for recreational vehicles at the veterans' memorial parking facility, 1745 Mission Drive, from 6am to 5pm daily. RVs are barred from the municipal center lot, and overnight camping in a motor home or camper is banned in every city lot. Staying over? See Solvang hotels.

Event days and parades

Big weekends change the math. The code lets the public works director close all or part of any lot for celebrations, parades and special events, and that matters at Danish Days in September and the Julefest parade in December. Arrive before 10, or park at the edge and walk in.

EV charging near the lots

The Department of Energy's station locator lists two Level 2 ports each at City Lot 1 (482 Alisal Road, ChargePoint), City Lot 3 (1556 Mission Drive) and the Veterans Memorial lot (1745 Mission Drive). For a fast charge, Electrify America has four DC fast chargers at 1980 Old Mission Drive, on the west edge of town. Full list in EV charging in the valley.
