Solvang Brewing Company is the brewpub in the windmill on Mission Drive. It's open Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30am to 10:30pm, and its food menu lives on its Toast online ordering page; open it from its site. It has a second location at 234 North H Street in Lompoc and runs a Mug Club rewards program.

What is Figueroa Mountain Brewing in Buellton like?

Figueroa Mountain's Buellton taproom is the brewery's original, which it calls "the mothership", with indoor and outdoor tables and a brew deck over the brewhouse. Figueroa Mountain's site lists it as family friendly and dog friendly, with live music and Hudson's Grill for food. Firestone Walker's Buellton taproom is home to Barrelworks, which it calls its "cathedral of barrels" for wild ales made with locally foraged ingredients. Expect a multi-level dining room, two patios and a gastropub menu built around beer: the 805 Smash Burger is $19 and Lion's Fish 'N' Chips $24 on its menu, and every Thursday the tri-tip plate is $22. A distillery on a llama farm

Rock 12 Distillery calls itself the region's first farm-to-glass distillery and tasting room. Sarah and Marko Suput bought a working llama farm on the Sta. Rita Hills wine trail in 2016, and Marko, from a long line of Serbian distillers, makes vodka, gin and brandy from Santa Barbara County fruit in a small-batch, open-fire copper still handmade in Serbia. After years of permits, the tasting room opened in winter 2023.

Expect spirit flights and seasonal cocktails. Dogs and outside food are welcome, reservations are requested on its site, and it's 21+. The mailing address says Lompoc, but it sits at 6605 Highway 246 out in the Sta. Rita Hills, between Buellton and Lompoc, about 20 minutes west of Solvang. Pair it with the Sta. Rita Hills wineries.

Go if: someone in your group would rather have gin than Pinot.
