Santa Ynez Valley wedding guest guide

Sleep, dine and get home after the wedding

Book a room near the venue first, because late rides are scarce. Mattei's Tavern (62 rooms) and Alisal Ranch (73) can sleep most guests on site. For the 1880 Union Hotel, stay on Bell Street. The valley bus stops by about 7pm and skips Sundays, so book a shuttle home.

Still choosing the venue? Compare capacities, rooms on site and posted prices in our Santa Ynez Valley wedding venues guide.

What can wedding guests do with a free afternoon?

If the ceremony is at 4pm, you have a morning and lunch to fill. In Los Alamos, the six Bell Street tasting rooms are within a quarter mile of each other. In Solvang, walk to Old Mission Santa Inés or the Elverhøj Museum, or rent a surrey at Wheel Fun Rentals. For a group outing, a balloon flight takes up to 16, and the Chumash Museum in Santa Ynez opens Thursday to Sunday. Our full list: things to do besides wine. If you do want to taste, see Santa Ynez wineries or Los Olivos tasting rooms.

How do wedding guests get around the Santa Ynez Valley?

Plan the ride home before the wedding. Santa Ynez Valley Transit runs Monday to Saturday from about 6:30am to 7pm between Ballard, Buellton, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Solvang. On Sunday there's only Dial-A-Ride, open to the public 8:30am to 12:30pm and 1pm to 4pm, and no bus serves Los Alamos [1]. Uber works here, but its own Santa Ynez page warns that pickups may take longer than in bigger cities and suggests reserving ahead [2].

For a late return, book a shuttle: Seaside Transportation, (805) 635-8000, groups Solvang hotels into Sprinter runs [3], and Visit the Santa Ynez Valley lists A and J Limousine, (805) 683-7772, and Bill's Bus, (805) 284-2455, for wedding shuttles [4]. Flying in? By road, Santa Barbara Airport is about 35 miles from Solvang, Santa Maria about 33 and LAX about 130, and our getting to Solvang guide has drive times to every valley town.

How do you set up a hotel room block for a valley wedding?

Start with the venue's own rooms: Mattei's has 52 guestrooms, 6 suites and 4 cottages, Alisal Ranch has 73 cottages and suites, and the 1880 Union Hotel has 9 rooms.

Then fill in by town. Los Alamos has only four places to stay, listed in where to stay in Los Alamos. Los Olivos has two inns (Los Olivos hotels), and Solvang has the most rooms (where to stay in Solvang). Visit the Santa Ynez Valley's sales team helps couples with room blocks at sales@visitsyv.com [5]. For Buellton's bigger chain hotels, see Buellton hotels.

Staying at the venue? Our Inn at Mattei's Tavern guide covers the resort fee, check-in times and dining, and the Fess Parker inn is about 0.3 miles away.

Staying at Skyview? Our Skyview Los Alamos guide covers which room to book, the pool and how non-guests get in.

Want a whole house for the wedding party? Sunstone, Carhartt and Firestone rent vineyard houses that sleep six to ten; see stay at a winery.

Good to know

Where should guests stay for a Santa Ynez Valley wedding? Near the venue, because rides are scarce late at night. Mattei's Tavern has 62 rooms and cottages on site and Alisal Ranch has 73. For the 1880 Union Hotel, use the Victorian Mansion next door or the Alamo Motel, 0.1 mile away. For Sunstone or Gainey, stay at Hotel Ynez, Polo House or The Genevieve.

Can you get an Uber after a wedding in Santa Ynez? Sometimes, but plan on waiting. Uber's own Santa Ynez page says pickup times may be longer than in bigger cities and suggests reserving a ride in advance, up to 90 days ahead. The valley bus does not run late or on Sundays, so book a shuttle for the ride home.

Is there a bus between Solvang, Los Olivos and Santa Ynez? Yes, Santa Ynez Valley Transit runs Monday to Saturday from about 6:30am to 7pm, linking Ballard, Buellton, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Solvang. There is no fixed route on Sunday, only Dial-A-Ride, and it does not serve Los Alamos.

Who runs wedding shuttles in the Santa Ynez Valley? Seaside Transportation, (805) 635-8000, does hotel-to-venue transfers and late returns in Sprinters. Visit the Santa Ynez Valley lists A and J Limousine, (805) 683-7772, for guest shuttles and Bill's Bus, (805) 284-2455, for wedding charters.

Quick answers

Is Kestrel Park still a wedding venue?

No. Kestrel Park, at 5200 Armour Ranch Road in Santa Ynez, was sold in April 2026 and no longer hosts weddings. Venues still booking include Mattei's Tavern, the 1880 Union Hotel, Sunstone, Gainey, Firestone, Alisal Ranch and The Landsby.

Which airport is closest to the Santa Ynez Valley?

Santa Barbara (SBA) has the most flights and is about 35 miles from Solvang or Los Olivos, roughly 50 minutes by road. Santa Maria (SMX) is closer to Los Olivos (27 miles) and Los Alamos (16 miles), but only Allegiant flies there. LAX is about 130 miles, 2 hours 45 minutes without traffic.
