Alma Rosa Winery

Alma Rosa Winery is a winery in Santa Rosa Road, outside the town of Buellton, California, at 7250 Santa Rosa Road, Buellton, CA 93427. Out on Santa Rosa Rd, about 14 min by car from Avenue of Flags in Buellton. Call 805-691-9395 or check its website for hours and reservations before you go.

On screen: Alma Rosa later used the old Santa Rosa Road shack where Sideways’ first tasting was filmed, which is why Visit Solvang credits the scene to Alma Rosa. The shack now stands on Peake Ranch. Our Sideways filming locations tour.

The backstory

Connections Richard Sanford planted Sanford & Benedict in 1971, the first vineyard in what became the Sta. Rita Hills. After the Terlato family took control of Sanford Winery in the mid-2000s, he and Thekla Sanford started Alma Rosa in 2005. Today the Terlatos farm the old vineyard, and both wineries carry the story.
