The Ynez

Text alerts

Last updated

Get a text when a rocket is about to go up from Vandenberg, with where to watch from the valley. Add the weekend's best bets on Thursday and a heads-up when a new guide goes live. Pick what you want. It's free from us, never more than 3 texts a day, and STOP ends it.

Which alerts?

10 digits. We text this number once to confirm.

You’re signed up. Our text line opens in the next few days. When it does, we’ll text this number once, and you reply Y to start your alerts.

Something on the form needs a fix: tick the box, pick an alert and use a US mobile number.

Too many sign-ups from this connection. Try again in an hour.

That didn’t go through. Please try again in a minute.

What the texts look like

Every text starts with "The Ynez" and links to a page on this site. A few examples:

  • Launch alertThe Ynez: Falcon 9 launch tonight, window opens 6:10pm. Where to watch: theynez.com/weekend/vandenberg-launch-viewing-lompoc/ Reply STOP to opt out
  • This weekendThe Ynez: This weekend in the valley, our 3 best bets for Saturday and Sunday: theynez.com/this-weekend/ Reply STOP to opt out
  • New guideThe Ynez: New guide: Lompoc beaches, with the dog rules by season. theynez.com/weekend/lompoc-beaches/ Reply STOP to opt out

How it works

  1. Pick your alerts, enter your number and tick the box.
  2. We text you once to confirm. Reply Y to start. No reply, no texts.
  3. Reply HELP any time for help, or STOP to cancel. "Stop texting me" works too. You get one text confirming you're out, then nothing.

Message frequency varies with what's happening, up to 3 texts a day. Msg & data rates may apply. The full rules are in the SMS Terms.

Who sends them

The Ynez is published by Bello Libre Partners LLC in Santa Barbara, California. We don't sell or share your number or your opt-in with anyone for their marketing.
