Why we keep going back
Los Alamos is a one-street town, and Bell's is why a lot of people make the drive. It calls itself a Michelin-starred, family-run bistro, with French-inspired food rooted in the ingredients of the Central Coast [1]. The menu and hours live in our full guide to Bell's in Los Alamos.
Who's cooking
Chef Daisy Ryan runs the kitchen. Bell's says Food & Wine named her one of its Best New Chefs, and the James Beard Foundation has nominated her more than once for Best Chef: California [1].
How to get in
Dinner is by reservation only, booked online. Tables open at 1pm on the 1st of each month for the following two months [2], so set a reminder. Lunch, Thursday to Monday from 11am to 3pm, is mostly walk-in and first come, first served, with limited advance reservations [3]. There's no phone line, so email info@bellsrestaurant.com with questions or if you're running late [3].
Make it a Los Alamos day
Make a day of Bell Street. Bob's Well Bread at 550 Bell is the morning stop (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) [4], and Pico at the Los Alamos General Store, 458 Bell, is Will Henry and Kali Kopley's place, and the Lumen wines on its list are theirs too [5][6].
