Ballard or Los Alamos: which Bob's should you go to?

Want the earlier start? Los Alamos, 550 Bell Street, opens an hour before Ballard: 7am to 4pm, Thursday to Monday. Coming from Solvang? The Ballard store, 2449 Baseline Avenue, is the closer one, about 9 minutes by road from Mission Santa Inés against about 24 minutes to Los Alamos, and it is open 8am to 4pm, Thursday to Monday. At both, the kitchen closes at 3pm, so come before then for breakfast or a sandwich. Both are closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Check its Instagram for one-off closures.

What is Bob's Well Bread known for?

Bread first: Sunset's 2025 award text, which the bakery republishes, names the classic Levain loaf, croissants and English muffins, plus breakfast and sandwiches. Its Instagram posts weekly specials; the week of Oct 15, 2026 brought a brisket sandwich on toasted pain au levain and mushroom barley soup. Canelés are on the counter too. The menus for each location are on its site, with online ordering.

Can you just get coffee at Bob's?

Yes, it's a bakery-café and a natural Bell Street coffee stop. If you only want coffee, Los Alamos Coffee & Tea is about 0.2 miles down Bell Street.
